Archant

A driver who saw his family have a near miss with a car travelling the wrong way down the A14 says it was the 'single worst moment' of his life.

Charlie Burton, 32, had picked up his work van from Needham Market on Sunday and was on his way home to Felixstowe in convoy with his girlfriend and three young children who were in another car in front of him.

At around 11.50am, just past the Seven Hills roundabout, Mr Burton spotted a Nissan Micra heading towards his family.

“This car came from nowhere the wrong way in the fast lane,” he said.

“Luckily the people in the left lane gave way to my girlfriend.
“My whole family was in that car.

“I had to brake hard to swerve too.”

Mr Burton captured the dramatic footage on his work van’s dash cam.

He said his girlfriend pulled into a lay-by a little further on following the terrifying near miss.

“When I caught up to her she had pulled into a lay-by in tears, shaking like mad,” he said.

“My five-year-old has been shaken up by it too.

“It was the single worst moment of my life.”

A police spokeswoman said officers caught up with the driver of the Nissan a little while later after she had pulled over.

She said the driver later voluntarily relinquished her driving licence.
