Kem Izzet thought Needham Market deserved to win the Suffolk Premier Cup last night.

Izzet, playing in his final game for The Marketmen, before going into football management, thought that his team, 3-2 victors, ‘dominated’ large parts of the second half.

“I thought the first half was a pretty even affair, and we probably didn’t deserve to get to half-time ahead (at 2-1),” said Izzet.

“But then in the second half, we came out and dominated for 25 to 30 minutes.

“We could have been three or four ahead, but we didn’t take chances and it was a little bit tight at the end, although I thought 3-2 was a fair reflection.”

After Luke Ingram and Frazer Blake-Tracy scored for either side in a quickfire start, Jack Simmons’ superb 25-yard curler, right on the stroke of half-time, changed the game, according to Izzet.

“In that passage of play, I was a bit busy trying to pick my shin up (from a tackle) - I got whacked but the referee played a really good advantage - and as I turned around, I just saw it going into the top corner,” explained the skipper, whose new club will be announced shortly.

“I think that goal gave them (Lowestoft) a bit of a kick in the privates, but it was a decent game, especially in the second half, when we got the ball down and started to play.

“The management team had a go at us at half-time because we were going too direct at times, but we had to win the battle before we could get the ball down and then we were a little bit too strong for them (Lowestoft) in the end.”

John Sands gave Needham a 3-1 lead shortly after the interval, and then The Marketmen missed a few good chances, before The Trawlerboys made it interesting with another Blake-Tracy goal late on.
