One of 32-year-old Ryan Graham’s dying wishes was to marry partner Amy and that dream was realised in May when the couple wed.

They enjoyed three months together as husband and wife before Mr Graham died at home on August 20.

Mrs Graham, of Park Road, Needham Market, said: “We had only been together 18 months when he got diagnosed.

“We got married at The Grange in Thurston on May 4 and it was a bit of a whirlwind with planning it in six weeks.

“It was one of Ryan’s wishes and I wanted to marry him, too.

“It was the most amazing day. The weather was beautiful and it couldn’t have been more perfect.”

Mr Graham, who was a stepfather to Shellie, 11, and eight-year-old Ryan Chettle, underwent a kidney and pancreas transplant in April 2010 after one of his kidneys was affected by his diabetes.

After feeling unwell, he underwent numerous tests at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge before being diagnosed with stomach cancer in February.

He was told it was terminal two months later.

Mrs Graham, 29, said: “He was just very unlucky. There was no family history so his diagnosis was a bolt out of the blue.”

She described her husband as “incredibly amazing”.

“He did everything. He took on my children and he was an incredibly hard worker,” she added.

“He was a pig farmer and worked very long days but he would come home and still work around the house.”

A fundraising page has been set up for St Elizabeth Hospice since Mr Graham’s death and more than £750 has been donated in his memory.

Mrs Graham said: “The hospice became involved with Ryan and he had a couple of stays there.

“He came home from the hospice on July 23 and from there we had district nurses and the hospice at home team come to us.

“The hospice did so much and Ryan wanted to raise money for people to receive the service that he did.”

Former Stowmarket Middle and High School pupil Mr Graham leaves behind his mother and stepfather Lorraine and Bruce, siblings Glen and Becky, nan Doreen and his nieces and nephews. His funeral will be held at St John Baptist Church in Needham Market on Wednesday at 2.30pm.
