A NEW divisional base for the Royal National Lifeboat Institution is being opened at 1pm on Saturday July 20 at Bluestem Road, Ransomes Europark, Ipswich.
Work on the new building began in January 2001 and took nine months to complete. It provides a base to work from, a repair facility and a specific area of contact for the lifeboat stations. Until now RNLI coast teams worked from home, their vehicles and various boatyards.
The new base accommodates a larger working area for the administrative and engineering staff and provides a training and meeting venue with improved stores facilities.
Martyn Smith, eastern divisional inspector of lifeboats, said: "The new facility will enable us to offer a better service to our volunteer crews and supporters. The whole team is privileged to be working in such excellent conditions."
