IT could become the Three Lions of the noughties.

A new song has been penned especially for former Ipswich Town player Fabian Wilnis' testimonial match in a fortnight - and it is hoped the tune could become the club's new anthem.

Written by Ipswich singer-songwriter Asa Jennings, the track has a catchy chorus while backing vocals are provided by Fabian and ex-players Kevin Beattie and Jason Dozzell.

Fabian came up with the idea to produce a song to give something back to the club and knew that Asa, who wrote a song for Kevin Beattie last year, was the man for the job.

Let's Go To Town pays homage to the club's greatest players and achievements and also features commentary from the 1978 FA Cup final, 1981 UEFA Cup final and 2000 play off win, as well as extracts from Sir Alf Ramsey and Sir Bobby Robson.

Asa, 29, a lifelong Town fan whose debut album sold in 30 countries, said: “I hope it will be used at games and for the celebration of goals. Rather than bringing out a gimmicky CD, we wanted it to be something that people liked and would buy as a record.

“Singing the Blues doesn't have the same effect as it used to and so Fabian thought we should have our own song which could be made into an anthem and played when goals are scored.”

Fabian, who retired from the game in May after a season with Grays Athletic, said: “I have been at the club for such a long time and they have been good to me. I wanted to give something back so I came up with the idea of getting a song made.

“I got in touch with Asa as I was impressed by his singing. It is a brilliant track.

“Ipswich will always have a special place in my heart and I'm sure I will be back here many times to watch them play.”

The song will be played at the start of the Dutchman's testimonial match on Saturday, July 25, when the Blues take on Colchester United at Portman Road, and will also be available to buy.

All the proceeds from the CD will go to the ITFC Community Trust.

The track can be previewed on Asa's You Tube channel at www.youtube.com/asajennings. There are also videos of ex-Town players and current Town players singing on the track.
