A CARING vet has raised more than £2,000 for courageous burns survivor Terri Calvesbert after hearing of her plight.

And just days after Marcus Harrington, from the Ark veterinary practice in Colchester gave £2,031 cash to four-year-old Terri, another £2,000 donation was also received at the Evening Star – this time anonymously.

After the Evening Star put Mr Harrington in touch with the Calvesbert family, he visited them in Broomfield Hospital, Chelmsford earlier this year.

Terri was delighted to then visit his West Bergholt home last week to receive the proceeds from a collection at the surgery, and sponsorship from a 10km run at Dedham which Mr Harrington completed along with two colleagues from the vets surgery.

The father of three said: "My daughter Amelia is also four, and we have the most wonderful relationship and are devoted to each other. I can see the same bond between Paul and Terri.

"When I learned of Terri's story it made me more aware of my own children. I looked at her and realised the same thing could have happened to Amelia.

"Terri enjoyed meeting my children, and even came with me to pick up my two-year-old George from nursery. She walked round the garden and she is such a happy little girl, and so confident."

Donations to the Evening Star's Terri Calvesbert Appeal are growing this week, in the wake of the Cover Story documentary about her shown on October 17.

The programme reached 270,000 viewers – one of the greatest audiences for an Anglia TV programme this year.

Viewer Kim Robertson sent £50 and said: "This special little girl deserves all the love, fun and happiness everyone is able to give. I sincerely hope that Terri's appeal helps to support that."

Angela Barnes from Southsea, Portsmouth sent £5 'with love and prayers' and Mrs B Chambers from Norwich sent £10 to a 'very brave little girl.'

The trust fund for Terri's future is now nearing £75,000.

To make a donation, send a cheque payable to the appeal c/o Geraldine Thompson, Editor's Secretary, The Evening Star, 30 Lower Brook Street, Ipswich, Suffolk IP4 1AN.
