Not to the ale but to the pump handle from which it is pulled – and over the next weeks and months other branding is being introduced.

The Ipswich-based brewery has decided to put its money where its mouth is, so to speak, by showing its commitment to cask ales and introducing the new branding.

Brian Gerbaldi, Tolly Cobbold's commercial manager, had good news for cask ale lovers and said: "There will be no difference to what goes into the glasses, the ale remains the same."

Today it is the new clips on the pump handles for Tolly Bitter, IPA, Original and Mild, plus posters and bar towels and over the coming months everything from drip mats to garden table umbrellas will be introduced.

Bob Wales, managing director of the Cliff Quay brewery, said: "It has been 12 years since we had new branding for our cask ales and it was about time we moved with the times.

"This is the beginning of the changes with 1,000 new clips and as an on-going process all outlets selling Tolly cask ales will be brought up to date," he added.

First pub to have the new branding was The Brewery Tap run by Christine Lack and John O'Sullivan in the grounds of the brewery.
