FOUR Felixstowe schools have new computer equipment today thanks to a major supermarket chain.

Pupils and their families collected thousands of Tesco Computers for Schools vouchers to qualify for the awards - with Deben High, Maidstone Infants, Colneis Junior and Causton Junior being presented with items to boost their information technology suites.

Suffolk Coastal MP John Gummer presented the children with the awards at the Tesco store in Hamilton Road, Felixstowe.

He said businesses were now playing an important role with schemes such as the Computers for Schools initiative to provide schools with extra items they would not otherwise have.

Mr Gummer said: “I think community efforts like this should be applauded and I am sure the schools will be delighted with the equipment.”

Store manager Rory Hemingway said the schools were able to choose the equipment they needed. In the past 15 years £110 million worth of equipment had been given away nationally, including 60,000 computers and 872,500 other pieces of equipment, including printers, scanners and digital cameras.
