IPSWICH is getting a new top cop as the town's most senior officer heads for a Suffolk-wide post and a fresh face steps into his shoes.

Chief Superintendent Aldwyn Jones, currently area commander for southern Suffolk, leaves Ipswich on Monday, December 3, for a new post as Head of Operations at the force's Martlesham headquarters.

Superintendent Geoff Munns, currently Operations Manager for the Southern Area, has been promoted and takes over as the new Area Commander on that date.

He said: "I am delighted and privileged to succeed Aldwyn Jones as new area commander for the southern area of the constabulary.

"I take command at an exciting time for the constabulary with real opportunities ahead to improve policing services across the area linked to the Suffolk First programme."
