NEW mayor of Felixstowe Angel Goodwin is looking forward to meeting the volunteers who make the town tick.

Over the next 12 months, she expects to fulfil hundreds of engagements around the resort - including attending a wide range of events and special occasions, and various clubs and organisations.

She said: “I am really looking forward to the year ahead and it is a real privilege to be mayor.

“I know it's going to be a busy year and I am particularly excited about meeting all those volunteers who work so hard behind the scenes at every function, club and event.”

Mrs Goodwin and her husband John, also a Conservative town councillor for the resort's north ward, have lived in the town for many years and ran their own haulage company, of which she was the financial director. They have five grown-up children.

Outgoing mayor Mike Deacon said he and his wife Anne, mayoress, had thoroughly enjoyed their year, the second time they have been mayor and mayoress.

“Lots of people will point to the celebration of the RAF's Freedom of Felixstowe as the highlight, but for me every event I attended was a highlight - they were all special occasions,” he said.

“We have met some wonderful people and everyone has made us very welcome. We have enjoyed it hugely.”
