PEACE and tranquility has been enhanced in a corner of the busy Ipswich Hospital.

The courtyard garden at the hospital, will now be able to be enjoyed by more people … thanks to the gift of two handcrafted wooden benches by the Conway family.

Carolyn Conway visited the hospital to give the family's gift to chairman Peter Bye.

The gift was in memory of her husband Mike, who was the chief executive of the National Association of the League of Friends.

Members of the League of Friends at Ipswich Hospital and Peter Green, deputy chairman of the National Association of the League of Friends, joined Mrs Conway at the informal reception at the courtyard garden.

Mr Bye said: "Mike's work with the National Association of the League of Friends has strengthened the importance of voluntary contributions in professional settings.

"The work of the League of Friends and volunteers in this Trust is very highly valued. I know that there was much affection between Mike and the local League of Friends and this generous gift will be enjoyed by visitors, patients, and staff in the years to come."

The wooden benches were made in Woodbridge, Mrs Conway's home town.
