THEATREGOERS could soon be linked with bus passengers and people who use Ipswich's sports facilities by a single card.

The card will allow them to pay for services before they use them.

The new system could replace the current Icard, which allows people to book sports venues and pay for leisure classes and entry to Ipswich Borough Council's sports facilities.

The council's Conservative administration is set to propose the new all-encompassing card during a review of the way it charges for sports facilities in the borough.

Judy Terry, the council's spokeswoman for culture and leisure, said the current system was “far too complicated”.

She said: “We want a change to the Icard system so that there is a much simpler card so people can pay on a monthly basis or quarterly or annually.

“Perhaps people could use it for example at the Regent and other providers in the town. People could use it for different things.”

The proposed changes come amid looming increases in fees and charges for council services. The entire raft of fees and charges increases will be put to the council's executive on August 21 for approval.
