PEOPLE with skin complaints can now get faster treatment at a new Ipswich clinic.

A special dermatology clinic run by GP's will mean patients no longer have to join lengthy hospital waiting lists.

Based at the Riverside Clinic in Landseer Road, it will be run on Wednesday and Thursday mornings with a joint clinic with Ipswich Hospital once a month.

The clinic will be run by Dr Jacqui Hawkins, a GP who specialises in dermatology and Jill Peters, a dermatology nurse practitioner, in partnership with Dr Sam Gibbs, who is consultant dermatologist at Ipswich Hospital.

Dr Hawkins said: "It is hoped that by relieving some of the pressure on the hospital dermatology service all patients will benefit and waiting lists will be reduced."

Referrals can be made by all GP's in the Ipswich Primary Care Trust catchment area.

All types of dermatology complaints can be dealt with, except those suspected of malignant skin cancer.

Anyone though to be suffering with skin cancer should be able to get an appointment to see a consultant within two weeks at Ipswich Hospital, fitting in with national guidelines.
