A Star Wars themed photograph taken by an Archant photographer is on display at a special New Year’s Day exhibition in London.

Sarah Lucy Brown’s ‘The Morning After The Night Before’ is one of 24 photographs taken on New Year’s Day this year from around the world now on display at the ’24:2016’ photography exhibition in Soho Square.

Ms Brown was one of 24 photographers on a postgraduate photography course in London in 2003 when they started the project. Each year on New Year’s Day, they take a photograph of wherever they are in the world and submit it to the gallery.

Ms Brown’s submission this year was taken by the River Deben in Suffolk.

She said: “On a frosty New Year’s morning, my friends and I thought what better to do than dress up as Star Wars characters and go for a walk along the River Deben.

“The light was magical and I actually think we had the best weather of the whole day.”

At the end of the project, which is taking place over 24 years, there will be 576 images.

Curator Brian Harris said: “This was a challenging brief which was well executed by 24 completely different photographers over a 24-hour period of time, giving us 24 different ways of seeing our world.

“I thank them all for opening my eyes to yet another way of seeing.”

Six prints from the project will also be auctioned off in aid of Hope and Homes for Children.

Claire Spreadbury, founder of 24photography, said: “The exhibition is going from strength to strength and now in our 13th year we have really developed an identity and feel that we are an established part of London’s art calendar.

“New Year’s Day is an exciting time of the year and we hope that 24 captures some of that excitement, but also gives a little glimpse into the rest of the day after the celebrations and parties.

“The exhibition in Soho Square allows us to share that with everyone.”

The current exhibition is open from 9am-5pm until March 18. It is free admission.
