AN appeal for witnesses has gone out from Suffolk police who are investigating an incident where two women were assaulted in Newmarket.The incident is believed to involve the same man in The Avenue between 2am and 2.

AN appeal for witnesses has gone out from Suffolk police who are investigating an incident where two women were assaulted in Newmarket.

The incident is believed to involve the same man in The Avenue between 2am and 2.45am on Saturday .

Both women were in their early twenties and from Newmarket. They were walking along The Avenue with two males when they noticed they were being followed by two other men.

One of these men ran at the women and punched both of them in the face before running off. Both women were left shaken and bruised.

The main offender is described as white, about 5ft 6ins, between 20 and 25 years old with blond hair, shaven around the sides and parted in the middle.

He was wearing a white and blue pin-striped shirt with white collar and cuffs, a denim jacket and dark jeans.

A second male is described as white, about 6ft, between 20 and 25 with blond hair. He was wearing a denim jacket and dark jeans.

Pc Travis Flannagan said: "This appears to be a particularly nasty and unprovoked attack on two young women."
