Now the Ipswich Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership is hoping local bus companies will make it permanent.
Suffolk County Council representative, Bryony Rudkin, said: "This was a Nightsafe initiative aimed at getting clubbers home quickly and safely. The service was well used and popular with passengers, 82 per cent of whom said they felt safer as a result.
"The police reported an eight per cent reduction in the number of public order and assault offences during the trial period."
Ipswich council's David Ellesmere, added: "The Christmas and New Year trial was a great success, so we are now looking at whether a year-round service is feasible."

A meeting with Ipswich taxi drivers is being held today and local bus companies will be invited to run night services from Cardinal Park to four different areas of town: Castle Hill/Whitton; Gainsborough; Stoke Park/Chantry and Whitehouse.
It is hoped the services will run on Friday and Saturdays, between 11.30pm and 4.30am, with passengers charged a flat-rate of £2 a journey.
