Nine fire appliances were called to a suspected blaze in a block of flats in Ipswich town centre on Sunday afternoon.
However the drama turned out to be a false alarm and they were sent back to their bases within a few minutes.
The appliances were from Ipswich, Woodbridge, Holbrook and Hadleigh fire stations but were sent back to their bases when it turned out there were no problems.
A spokeswoman for Suffolk Fire and Rescue said it was necessary to send so many appliances because of the nature of the building.
