HOSPITAL chiefs in Ipswich have underlined the rigour with which they compile waiting lists and waiting time figures after a report found nine other NHS Trusts guilty of fiddling figures.

Spot checks will now be introduced after the nine NHS trusts in London and across the country were found to have "inappropriately adjusted" their figures.

But altering the figures for waiting lists and waiting times was definitely not a practice in Ipswich.

A spokeswoman said: "We have a very rigorous system for collating and compiling all waiting lists and waiting time systems," she said. "We give detailed figures on numbers of people on the waiting lists and the length of time they have been waiting. We have also got very detailed information on the waiting times for people when they attend out patient and accident & emergency department. We take very seriously our responsibility to treat people as quickly as possible and reducing waiting times and waiting lists is a very high priority for us. At the moment we are managing through immense emergency pressure but we are still able to admit patients who need urgent care."
