POLICE have today confirmed they have dropped a further rape inquiry - but will be taking no further action against the woman reported the offence.

They will be taking no further action following a report of a rape during the early hours of 28 December last year.

A 35-year-old woman said she had been raped by a white male and a black male in a car in the entrance to Gippeswyk Park, Ancaster Road, Ipswich

Detectives arrested a woman on suspicion of wasting police time. She was bailed to return to Ipswich Police Station on Wednesday, 27 February. A decision has been made to take no further action against her.

This move comes just days after police abandoned the inquiry into a reported rape near Tower Ramparts in the heart of Ipswich.

A spokeswoman for the police said officers would not wish to discourage genuine reports of rape. They want to reassure people that all complaints of crime will be thoroughly investigated.
