BOUDICCA has been saved to fight another day after desperate rearguard actions to find a venue to stage a play about the warrior queen.

Suffolk College has come to the rescue and offered acclaimed theatre group Eastern Angles a venue for their up and coming production of Boudicca's Babes.

The production was left without an Ipswich venue when plans to stage it in the former Cranfields Mill on the Ipswich Waterfront fell through.

The East of England Development Agency pulled the plug on an agreement to put on the play there, saying the venue was no longer safe.

Suffolk College have stepped in and offered its Main Hall at the College Campus at Rope Walk.

Now the production will be staged there for four days from October 10 to 13.

College principal Professor Dave Muller, said: "We saw the predicament – we sympathised with both Eastern Angles and the East of England Development Agency – and so we offered our help. And now we're delighted to play host to Eastern Angles' excellent production. The Roman Legions now have Suffolk College to contend with if they want to grind Boudicca into the East Anglian dust.

"The College has a fine drama and performing arts department of its own and it is highly appropriate that the College should be able to work with East Anglia's professional touring company".

Ivan Cutting, Artistic Director of Eastern Angles, said: "It might not be by the water, but we are doing our best with special projectors and screens to bring the waterside into the hall.

"It is still a great opportunity to the show in a unique and special atmosphere, which the critics have loved."
