Bank holiday sun seekers enjoyed a late summer blast of beautifully warm weather across Suffolk.
But the prediction of record-breaking temperatures was not to be – the hottest temperature recorded officially in Suffolk today was Santon Downham near Thetford, where the mercury reached 26.8C.
Chris Bell, forecaster with Weatherquest at the UEA, said: “It has not been anywhere near the hottest day of the year, but it was been very warm and above the average of 21C to 22C in Suffolk. It reached above 30C earlier in the summer.”
He added it would remain humid on Tuesday but temperatures would fall to the low 20s as the week continued.
He said Monday’s hot spell was down to the meeting of low pressure to the west and high pressure to the south and east drawing in hot air from the continent.
Mr Bell could not rule out another heatwave hitting the region between now and September.
