AROUND a dozen Norwich City fans were thrown out of Colchester's stadium yesterday after obtaining tickets among the home supporters.

Through a ballot some 2,000 Norwich supporters snapped up the allocation of tickets for the travelling fans, but some yellow and green fans managed to get in with the home fans.

A number of them were ejected from the stadium by stewards, while a Colchester supporter who ran onto the pitch and sped over towards the Norwich fans was rugby tackled by policemen and taken away.

A Colchester United spokesman said around a dozen Norwich fans were ejected from the home ends at the Weston Homes Community Stadium, but added on the whole fans had been well behaved in and around the ground.

With emotions running high police warned troublemakers they would face stern action. British Transport Police officers were on duty at Norwich, Ipswich and Colchester stations to ensure the safe and orderly movement of football fans.

But a spokesman for British Transport Police said that no arrests had been made in the immediate aftermath of the game.
