WELCOME to the latest instalment of our chronological look through the Star’s fascinating picture archives.

We are remembering the year 1965 and hope that these pictures spark some happy memories.

In our gallery, above right, we have the basketball team at Thurleston School photographed in December 1965 and images from St Helen’s Hospital Christmas bazaar in November of that year.

There was a presentation at Ipswich Sub-Aqua Club in July and our photographers were there. They also snapped the winners of the Felixstowe Sailing Club Cup in November 1965.

We have images from the Boys’ Brigade sponsored walk from Ipswich to Norwich in November 1965; the Greyfriars Ladies’ Circle’s charter night at the Great White Horse Hotel in Ipswich; and a photo of three girls who raised funds for St Mary’s Babies Home in Felixstowe.

Our final photo is from the East Anglian Publicity Club’s treasure hunt. Are you in any of these pictures? Let us know your memories.

Meanwhile, Ipswich Star reader Susan Catley, of Bucklesham Road, dropped us a line recalling a picture from 1963 published in Photographic Memories two weeks ago, below right.

She writes: “Seeing the photograph in Tuesday, October 16, of Peggy Mount opening St Matthew’s bazaar in December 1963 brought back memories.

“I was 13 at the time and I think the two ladies were Doreen Howe and Olive Neobard. I was at this event but didn’t manage to get in the photo.

“I used to love going to St Matthew’s bazaars, they were very good and friendly and had lots of nice stalls. I attended St Matthew’s School.”

Thanks for your letter, Susan, and as ever, if you have any memories you wish to share with Ipswich Star readers, drop us a line at the addresses below and we’ll feature your contributions at a later date.
