IPSWICH took a step back in time by revisiting the 1940s when it held a fun day for all the family.

As part of national heritage open day yesterday Christchurch Park held a raft of events with old-fashioned activities such as egg-and-spoon and sack races, Punch and Judy shows and classic dancing.

Re-enactors dressed in traditional clothes and wartime uniforms brought history alive and stalls sold cakes from the era.

Ruth Gillan from Colchester and Ipswich museum service, which helped organise the day, said: “I hope people liked the atmosphere. It is like stepping back in time.”
