Watching England play in national football tournaments is never short of drama, from winning the World Cup in 1966 to the infamous 1986 Maradona ‘Hand of God’ goal that knocked us out of the competition.
In this gallery, we revisit another World Cup encounter between England and Argentina in 1998. Fans piled into CJ’s Sports Bar in Felixstowe to watch the drama unfold.
It was a close match. Batistuta scored the first goal to put the Argentines ahead before Shearer drew things level. Michael Owen put England in front in the 16th minute.
Zanetti brought the Argentines back level in injury time from the first half. The game went onto tense penalties, as can be seen by some of the reactions from fans in CJ’s, caught on camera by one of our photographers.
