OLIVER is the show which always leaves its audience shouting for more - and the latest production at Felixstowe's Spa Pavilion is certainly prompting calls for an encore.
OLIVER is the show which always leaves its audience shouting for more – and the latest production at Felixstowe's Spa Pavilion is certainly prompting calls for an encore.
The Lionel Bart musical is being performed by a mixture of old stagers from the local theatre scene and a host of newcomers.
Theatre group Team Act has put together the show, which runs until Saturday , with two "teams" involving more than 40 youngsters from around the area playing the junior roles.
Team Act doesn't have members ready to put together a show, and holds auditions after advertising in the area it is staging a show. Eight weeks of intensive rehearsals then take place.
The cast of Oliver! include players from Stowmarket Players, Ipswich Operatic and Dramatic Society, Stage Door, and also from Essex.
Show directors Ann and Gary Sullivan have gained considerable recognition during the last 12 years with more than 100 productions to their credit and a list of national and international awards won at festivals in the UK and Ireland.
Jane Bowen, a regular performer with Ipswich Operatic, is to play Nancy and Tony Rodwell, well known in the Felixstowe area, returns to the Spa as Fagin in thic classic Dickens tale, having played it there in 1994.
Other well know performers include Pauline Taylor and David Lilley from Stowmarket Players as Mr and Mrs Sowerberry, the maudlin undertakers.
Tickets for the show – nightly at 7.30pm with a matinee at 3pm on Saturday – are £10, with concessions £9, from the Box Office on 01394 282126.
