The pupils, who had each penned a poem for the collection Fire: Friend or Foe, gathered at the Ipswich store with school staff and proud parents where they could sign each others’ copies, and enjoy a special reading of the poems.
Headteacher, Philip Palmer: “This is absolutely great and they have been looking forward to this for a long time. It’s great for the parents to come into town to see their children signing their own books. These are the kind of things we hope they will take with them long after they have finished at The Oaks.”
Parent Robert Scrivener said it had helped boost reading at home for his son Connor.
Amy Fountain, children’s book seller at the store added: “It’s such a good idea – we have never had anything like this with the children in store and they are really excited about it.

“The kids are really enjoying being the author for the day.
“The poems are really good – some of the words used for 6-7 year olds is great.”
