AN ELDERLY woman scared an intruder from her home by waiving a knife at him.
Suffolk police said they were hunting the man, believed to be 40 to 45 years old, after he confronted the 75-year-old woman in her home in London Road, Ipswich.
The man got into the house at about 9.45pm yesterday by climbing through an open bedroom window. He then walked into the living room where the pensioner was watching television.
She shouted at him and picked up a sandwich knife and waived it at him.
The intruder claimed he had been running after two boys in her garden but left the room when the woman protested. He walked out the front door, which the woman shut behind him.
He then banged on the door a couple of times but the woman refused to let him in and called police.
She later discovered that her purse had been taken.
The man is described as white, between 5ft 5in and 5ft 8in, with a slim build and a thin face. He was wearing dark clothing, including a medium length dark top.
His hair was dark brown and may have been curly at the front. He spoke in a quiet voice and smelt strongly of tobacco.
Anyone with information should call Ipswich police on 01473 613500 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
