A MAN accused of raping a 19-year-old girl appeared to be obsessed with her, it has been claimed.

A friend of the alleged rape victim told a jury at Ipswich Crown Court yesterday, occasionally when her friend's mobile phone had been switched off, she would find up to 70 missed calls from Benjamin Pryke.

She added Pryke, 21, would also follow her friend around and would turn up at nightclubs that she went to regularly.

"He was obsessive," said the friend.

Pryke, of Angel Street, Hadleigh, has denied raping the girl, who cannot be named by law, at his parents' house in Queenscliffe Road, Ipswich, on August 18, last year.

It has been alleged Pryke took the girl's handbag with her keys in it and she had gone into his parents' house, where he had allegedly raped her.

The girl claimed Pryke put his hands round her throat and started strangling her.

Giving evidence, she told the court he told her he was going to kill her and he did not care what happened to him or her.

She denied consenting to sexual intercourse with Pryke and denied accusing him of raping her because he said he did not want to see her again.

The trial continues.
