AN OFF duty firefighter died after a collision in Essex today.
Stephen Capp, 39, stationed at White Watch Hadleigh in south Essex, died after a collision between a car and a motorcycle in London Road, Hadleigh, at 9.02am.
Two crews attended the scene but no action was taken as no-one was trapped.
A statement from Essex County Fire and Rescue Service said: “It is with deep regret we confirm the death of Firefighter Stephen Capp, 39.
“Steve was involved in a serious road traffic collision. He was transferred to Southend Hospital but sadly died from his injuries.”
Chief fire officer David Johnson said: “The thoughts of the entire Service are with the family of Firefighter Capp. We will offer them all the support and help they need.
“The fire service is an extended family and we have all been shocked and saddened by this news, particularly his colleagues at Hadleigh Fire Station.”
Steve was a father of five and lived in Yately, Hampshire and had served with Essex County Fire and Rescue Service for two years.
He was also a retained firefighter with Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service.
