IPSWICH'S Cineworld Cinema is set to screen a season of operatic performances live from the world-renowned New York Metropolitan Opera, it was announced today.

Cinema goers will get to see international operas, including Donizetti's Lucia Di Lammermoor, Gilbert's Dr. Atomic and Strauss's Salome during performances from next month to May 2009.

Cineworld Ipswich's deputy general manager, Andy Reed said: “At Cineworld we are committed to giving our visitors the very best experience from their local cinema and are delighted that we can diversify our programme schedule in this way.

“Through showcasing the New York Metropolitan Opera we are not only making the Met's famous Diamond Circle more accessible to opera fans across the UK, but are bringing them the very best cultural entertainment the world has to offer.”

Cineworld has increased the number of operas it will be showing this season to a collection of ten dramatic titles, all transmitted live from New York in high definition format.

Each opera not only includes a behind the scenes feature with interviews from the artists, directors and stage managers. The screenings also include documentaries and an on-screen tour of The Opera House.
