BAD weather conditions were causing problems at Felixstowe port this afternoon - with truckers warned that Operation Stack was being brought into action.

Officials at the container terminal said the gusty winds were affecting quayside operations and holding areas for lorries were full.

Operation Stack would be used and vehicles would be asked to park up on the old A45 at Levington.

Suffolk police and the Highways Agency are assisting with the management of the operation and lorry drivers were being told to follow the signs from Seven Hills interchange.

At present no container vehicles are being allowed onto the port.

Tickets to visit the terminal can be obtained from the holding area on the old A45.

Any vehicles arriving at the port without a ticket and valid VBS booking will be redirected either to their local yard or to the old A45.

A port spokesman said: “When the wind speed drops below our safe working limit it is likely to take some time to clear all waiting vehicles, in view of this hauliers travelling to the port are advised to delay their journey until normal operations resume.”
