NEW procedures for Operation Stack were today announced in a bid to ease congestion on the A14 when the port of Felixstowe is closed.
Under the new arrangements which will come into force on March 1, container lorries will stack along the old A45 Felixstowe Road, Levington when container terminals are forced to close for short periods of time.
Currently they are stacked on the A14 itself.
Suffolk county councillor Guy McGregor, portfolio holder for roads and transport said: “I am pleased that we have come to an agreement with our partners on Operation Stack.
“It was vital that we investigated the impacts on the roads and the local communities before we considered the new route.
“These new arrangements are temporary, and we will continue to work with the local community and business to explore and find a more permanent solution.”
