A 39-year-old man has been arrested after police discovered a mini cannabis factory on the outskirts of Ipswich town centre.

More than 30 plants were discovered at a property in Clarkson Street, which backs on to Norwich Road.

Officers from Operation Woven, which is designed to disrupt drug-dealing in Ipswich, discovered the Class B drugs.

The suspect was taken into custody and interviewed at Martlesham Police investigation centre, before being released.

Anne-Marie Breach, a spokeswoman for Suffolk Constabulary, said: “Officers located an address which smelt strongly of cannabis in Clarkson Street.

“Around 35 plants were located at the address and a 39-year-old man from Ipswich was arrested on suspicion of cultivation of cannabis.

“He was interviewed and has now been released under investigation, pending further enquiries.”

The arrest took place just before 9.30pm on Saturday.

Operation Woven has led to dozens of arrests connected to suspected drug-dealing since it began as a short-term initiative in March.

Its success has seen the operation extended to September.
