LONDON'S Royal Philharmonic Orchestra (RPO) has today announced a further performance at Ipswich's Regent Theatre.
The RPO is due to perform a Tchaikovsky gala on October 18 and will return on March 25 2009 with Here Come the Classics concert.
Theatre manager David Mansfield said: “The Royal Philharmonic is one of the world's top orchestras. It's fantastic that their performance in October, their first in Ipswich for ten years, is selling so well.
“The 'Here Comes the Classics' performance that we have announced for March next year is a superb programme of some of the most popular classical music.”
Mr Mansfield said there's been a surge of interest in orchestral music following Last Night of the Proms last weekend and the finale of BBC2's Maestro.
He added: “In recent years some of the orchestral scores to the big blockbuster films have made the transition to be classified as popular music and the success of Classic FM is testament to the widespread popularity of orchestral music.
“The Tchaikovsky Gala that the Royal Philharmonic are performing in October is set to be a rousing experience complete with an explosive finale of canon and mortar effects for the 1812 Overture.”
Tickets for both performances are available from the box office on 01473 433100.
