AN innovative fundraising appeal from St Elizabeth Hospice has earmarked Christmas cards as a potential money-spinner.

Although September may seem a little early to be getting into the festive mood, for the hospice it provides a vital part of their fundraising income, which needs to exceed £1million each year for the hospice to be able to continue its services.

A Christmas card leaflet, featuring many local views, is being sent to businesses to tempt them into purchasing the cards. A mail order option is also available for people wishing to purchase the cards.

A Christmas Light Up a Life appeal, which invites people to sponsor a light on a Christmas tree in honour of someone, is also being run. There is an option to hang a gold card candle or star on a tree, which carries a message on the back. Facilities are also available for Christmas events, including parties.

The hospice also collects old foreign currency, old British coins, used postage stamps, laserjet and inkjet cartridges.
