Outdoor cinema to screen ET, Jaws and Dirty Dancing at Ipswich’s Holywells Park this week

Holywells Park in Ipswich will be transformed into an open air cinema this week.
As part of Ipswich Borough Council’s programme of summer events, The Pop Up Pictures Great Outdoor Cinema Club is back in town showing three classic films in Myrtle Meadow.
For Throwback Thursday, on August 3, there is ET - the 1982 American science fiction fantasy film co-produced and directed by Steven Spielberg (PG). It tells the story of the lovable Extra-Terrestrial who ends up stranded on earth and is befriended by Elliott.
The alien secretly lives in Elliott’s California home until he becomes ill and the US government step in.
Fright night Friday, on August 4, is Jaws (PG) - also directed by Spielberg and based on Peter Benchley’s 1974 novel of the same name. With that unforgettable tension music, it never fails to strike fear into the hearts of any filmgoer!
Then for Singalong Saturday there’s Dirty Dancing (PG-13) starring Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey.
The 1987 love story, along with its memorable soundtrack and one-liners, has become a firm favourite among generations of film lovers.

Food and drink will be available on site, so those attending are asked not to take their own picnics along.
An Ipswich Borough Council spokesman said: “Pop-up Pictures has three very different and exciting films and some fabulous food on site so you can relax in the fabulous surroundings of Holywells Park and either laugh, shiver with fright or smile with delight depending on which ones you go to.”
All three showings are from 6.30pm.
Adult tickets cost £13.50, children £9.50.
