PEOPLE in Felixstowe are being asked to get arty and put their imaginative ideas for the future of the resort on paper.

It is hoped hundreds of residents will take part in the two-day project which aims to encourage people to draw a vision of how they see their town - and inspire a major piece of public art for the new Martello Park development.

The Felixstowe Big Draw will be held in the resort on Saturday October 4 and Sunday October 5.

“Over the two days there will be a variety of drawing materials provided, with pencils, pens, crayons, and chalk, or even sticks for drawing in the sand,” said Suffolk Coastal cabinet member Mary Neale.

“This event is open to everyone, regardless of age or ability.

“All that is required is a vision of how Felixstowe should be in the coming years and the willingness to commit those wonderful ideas to paper.”

Drawing materials are free and can be collected from the Spa Pavilion and Spa beach hut 22 between 11am and 3pm each day.

Artist Hill Jephson Robb , who has been commissioned to carry out the public art project, will attend and be looking to channel the thoughts and innovations he discovers from the drawings to produce art which reflects a future vision of Felixstowe.

“We hope the community's imagination will be fired up by The Big Draw so the artist's work engages with their points of view and communicates something beautiful and meaningful to locals and tourists alike,” said Mrs Neale.

“It would be marvellous if we had a big turn-out for this event. Felixstowe is changing, and we want everyone to make their feelings known and be a part of its future.”

Martello Park will be part of the £25 million-plus south seafront regeneration scheme.
