Two men from Woodbridge charged with the attempted rape of a woman in Rope Walk, Ipswich, have pleaded not guilty.

George-Hari Constantinescu and Danut Gheorghe, both 29, were arrested after the incident in the early hours of the morning of Saturday, February 25, in Rope Walk, involving a woman in her 20s.

The pair were seen at South East Suffolk Magistrates’ Court in Ipswich on Monday, March 6, before the case was sent to the crown court.

The pair appeared at Ipswich Crown Court this morning for the first time, and both pleaded not guilty through a Romanian interpreter to one count of attempted rape.

The plea and trial preparation at the court this morning outlined the evidence to be heard for the trial, which is due to begin on July 31.

Both men, who had been held in custody since their magistrates court appearance, will remain in custody ahead of the trial.
