A PARAMEDIC has today praised passers by who helped to revive an elderly woman who had suffered a heart attack.

The woman, believed to be in her 90s, collapsed on Chapel Lane, Wickham Market, just before 12pm today .

Stuart Supple, a community paramedic based at Saxmundham, said when he and an ambulance crew arrived three members of the public were attempting to resuscitate the woman.

He said: “They were giving good quality basic life support and we were then able to use a defibrillator to shock the woman's heart back into a normal rhythm.”

She was then taken to Ipswich hospital where her treatment continued.

Mr Supple urged more people to learn resuscitation techniques.

He said: “These three did tremendously well in giving this woman a chance of survival and it really is essential to start resuscitation early.

“The chances of survival increase by 40 per cent if you can get early help to people who suffer a cardiac arrest.”
