Patrick’s Boxing Club in Ipswich has unveiled its new look-gym after being boosted by an Ipswich Borough Council grant.
The club, based in York Road runs boxing two nights a week and kick-boxing three nights a week, and supports dozens of young people with health and fitness, losing weight and overcoming other issues in their lives.
And after years of owner Rory Burke, 60, having pumped his own money into the cause, the club was given a £4,015 grant by the borough council’s south east area committee to replace tired equipment earlier this year.
Now, the club unveiled the newly refurbished gym which includes vibrant new safety mats, punchbags and kit such as skipping ropes and boxing gloves.
Liz Harsant, borough councillor for the Holywells ward, said: “I am thrilled because we have been trying to do it for a year and everything takes such a time.”
