THE renaissance of the Ipswich waterfront area has taken another step forward – with the recent opening of a £750,000 paving scheme.

The Fore Street and Northern Quays promenade walkway was one of the key projects proposed in the Wet Dock Development Framework commissioned by the Waterfront Steering Group from consultants Llewelyn Davies in 1998.

It has been made possible by the co-operation of many organisations and companies, including businesses operating along the quayside who supported the preparation and implementation of the scheme.

Funding has been provided by a variety of organisations, including the East of England Development Agency, the Port of Ipswich, Bellway Homes, English Heritage, Ipswich Borough Council and Suffolk County Council.

The design and construction was also a highly collaborative project between the borough council and KLH Architects. The work has taken about nine months to complete.
