AN INVESTIGATION is under way after an elderly man was killed after he was involved in a car crash while he was out walking in Great Cornard.

The man, believed to be in his 70s, was involved in a collision with a car on Kings Hill in Great Cornard, near Sudbury. It is believed he is local to the area.

Police are now investigating the circumstances of the crash, which happened at around 8.30pm and involved a purple Ford Fiesta.

After the alarm was raised three ambulance vehicles attended the site of the crash, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police blocked off the road to traffic while they dealt with the incident.

Late last night no formal identification of the body had taken place, so officers could not release the details of the victim.
