A WORKMAN killed after a vehicle left the road and crashed into him has today been named by Essex police.
Gerald Thorn, 53, of Little Walden Road, Saffron Walden was killed following a collision between two cars on Littlebury Green Road on Friday at about 1.45pm.
He and a colleague, a 36-year-old man from Coggeshall, were carrying out maintenance work on a street sign adjacent to the road when they were struck down.
Mr Thorn was declared dead at the scene. His injured colleague suffered a stable fracture to his spine, cuts and bruises and remains in a stable condition at Addenbrookes Hospital, Cambridge.
The drivers of the silver Vauxhall Corsa and the grey VW Golf estate involved were not injured but shocked.
The 19-year-old driver of the Vauxhall Corsa was arrested on suspicion of careless driving and has been released on police bail until December 12.
Police officers from Dunmow Road Policing Unit would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident or may have seen either vehicle close to the location of the crash, officers can be contacted on 0300 333 4444.
