AN elderly woman was being treated for suspected serious injuries after her mobility scooter was involved in an accident with a car.

The incident happened this afternoon at about 1.30pm in Walton High Street, Felixstowe.

Police immediately set up diversions for traffic as the road linking Felixstowe and Trimley St Mary was blocked.

The crash happened not far from the junction with Maidstone Road and involved a green Toyota Rav4 vehicle and the mobility scooter ridden by a 70-year-old woman.

A police spokeswoman said the woman had suffered suspected serious injuries and was being treated at the scene by paramedics.

Diversions, expected to last until around 5.30pm, were set up for traffic and vehicles were being sent via the Candlet Road Walton by-pass to reach the Trimley villages.

Further diversions were set up around Walton to take traffic away from the High Street with Maidstone Road junction closed.

Police officers had spoken to a number of witnesses but investigating officers would still like to hear from anyone else who saw what happened.
