AN elderly woman was found dead by firefighters called to tackle a house fire yesterday.

The Cambridgeshire fire service was called to the blaze in Wisbech at about 3.14pm.

When firefighters searched the property they discovered an 87-year-old woman in the bedroom of the bungalow.

A spokeswoman for the fire brigade confirmed the woman was found deceased.

Police officers and fire officers conducted an investigation into the cause of the fire, concluding it was an accidental blaze started by incorrectly extinguished smoking material in the house.
