DETECTIVES in Ipswich are investigating a distraction burglary after cash was stolen from a 79-year-old man.
The resident in Lacey Street opened his door to a man asking whether he wanted any garden work carried out, and returned later as agreed to do the job.
The offender asked for a glass of water and the pensioner fetched it, but returned to find cash had been stolen.
Sunday afternoon's offender was 5ft 7ins tall, of medium build, with short ginger hair and freckles.
Police warned people to be vigilant and not let strangers into their homes unless they are completely satisfied that after asking for identification they are genuine. Legitimate companies are always happy to provide identification or return after checks have been made.
Callers should never be left alone in a room.
