A person has died after being struck by a train at the Mellis crossing this morning.

The death is not currently being treated as suspicious, and a file will be prepared for the coroner.

British Transport Police and ambulance crews were called to the crossing at 6.30am, a Greater Anglia spokeswoman has said, and trains running between Norwich and London Liverpool Street were delayed in both directions.

The 6.39am service from Ipswich to Norwich was cancelled, and so was the 6.45am Norwich to London Liverpool Street.

The line towards Norwich remains completely blocked and Greater Anglia bosses expect disruption to continue until at least 10am.

Passengers heading towards London will experience residual delays but the line is now open again.

A replacement bus service is in place on the Norwich-bound line.

Both Greater Anglia and Network Rail have apologised to customers for the disruption.
