AN IPSWICH man is appealing for people to help find a brief case containing personal papers stolen from his car.

Solicitor Keith Gaston parked the vehicle in the town's Wellesley Road and returned the following morning to find the item missing along with a brown leather filofax.

He accidentally left the Ford Mondeo car unlocked overnight on the May 20. The next morning he realised something was amiss when he spotted papers all over the floor of the car and the tape box open. The filofax was later recovered.

Mr Gaston, 37, said: "It is just really irritating.

"The brief case had personal things in it which were of no value at all to anyone else so I am wondering if anyone has seen them thrown away, perhaps in someone's back garden.

"The ironic thing is that the thieves left in the car carrier bag with a £50 cartridge for an office laser printer and didn't take it. It was just an opportunist theft.

"It was annoying more than anything else because I spent most of the morning sorting out insurance claims, contacting police and a locksmith, which all takes time and time means money."

A spokesman for Ipswich Police confirmed that an arrest has been made in connection with the theft and investigations are continuing.

They urged people not to leave their valuables on show and to leave vehicles secure.

They appealed for witnesses or anyone who has seen the brief case to contact Ipswich police station on 01473-383100.
