THERE were chaotic scenes on an East Anglian motorway today as emergency services tried to round up a dozen pigs running loose on the road.
The animals escaped from a lorry which had overturned on the southbound carriageway of the M11 near Bishops Stortford at around 4.45am.
Firefighters were sent to the scene after reports the driver was trapped in the vehicle, which was carrying 82 pigs.
But they had to call for back up from the police and Highways Agency after a number of pigs were found running free.
The southbound carriageway was closed at junction 8 while efforts were made to catch the livestock and secure them in a makeshift pen.
A vet was also called as one pig appeared to have injuries to its back and there were others with unknown injuries. Paramedics tended to the driver.
